What are the laws regarding e-bikes?

26-07-21 | Simon

For the EU and UK all e-bikes have to abide by several rules:

The motor cannot provide more than 250 Watts of additional assistance for the cyclist.

The motor assist has a speed limiter of 15mph (25 kph). At higher speeds the motor must cut out.

The system must be a motor ‘assist’. It can only operate to supplement a rider’s own pedalling input. There must be no throttle or way of operating the bicycle under motor power alone.
