Trek's Optimum Compaction Low Void Carbon (OCLV) is our patented carbon fiber used for bike frames, wheels, handlebars, and more. It utilizes carefully calculated patterns of carbon fiber, which are then compacted using heat and pressure to achieve the perfect carbon-to-resin ratio. I have owned this bike for just over two years and primarily use it for mountain biking, with occasional use on the road. I have made several upgrades to the bike, including a full Ultegra 12-speed Di2 groupset and a Dura Ace cassette, which is 100g lighter than the Ultegra one. I also replaced the heavy aluminum seat cap with a carbon one, which is over 100g lighter.
In addition, I upgraded the wheels from the heavy Bontrager ones to a DT Swiss ER1400 wheel set. These wheels feature the famously brilliant, durable, and rebuildable 240 hubs, which are also very lightweight. They have a 36t Sl ratchet for faster engagement and are noticeably lighter than the 18t ratchet. These wheels are of higher quality than the typical sub-£1k wheel sets, which often have heavy hubs and poor quality internals that can fail and are difficult to find replacement parts for. The DT Swiss wheels are stiff yet comfortable, providing a zippy feeling to the ride. They are also equipped with 30mm Vittoria Corsa Pro tires, which are currently used by many professional Tour Teams. These tires are made of 320tpi cotton, making them supple, comfortable, and fast-rolling with excellent grip.
I also replaced the heavy Bontrager bars and stem with PRO PLT Carbon Aero Bars and a PLT stem. Overall, this bike is better equipped and considerably lighter than an SL5, resulting in a better riding experience. I am willing to deliver the bike for free or allow a test ride if you are local to Cannock. I am also willing to deliver the bike within 100 miles of Cannock or meet up with the buyer.
