Cannondale is an American bicycle manufacturer founded in 1971 by Joe Montgomery. The company began by producing outdoor gear, including backpacks and camping equipment, before turning its focus to bicycle manufacturing.

In the early years, Cannondale gained a reputation for innovation, using lightweight aluminum frames in its bikes when steel was still the standard material. The company also introduced new technologies, such as the oversized aluminum tubing used in the famous Cannondale "beast of the east" mountain bike.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Cannondale continued to push the boundaries of bicycle technology and design, introducing new materials such as carbon fiber and titanium into its frames. The company also expanded its product line to include road bikes, mountain bikes, and more.

In the 2000s, Cannondale faced financial difficulties and was acquired by Pegasus Capital Advisors, a private equity firm. Under new ownership, the company refocused on its core values of innovation and quality, introducing new technologies such as the Lefty suspension fork and the BB30 bottom bracket.

Today, Cannondale is one of the most respected and innovative bicycle manufacturers in the world. The company continues to push the boundaries of bicycle design and technology, with a focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility. Cannondale is also a sponsor of professional cycling teams and athletes, including the EF Education-Nippo Pro Cycling Team.
